If you hate truly depressing films then don't watch this. However, if you like to clarify in your mind how utterly pointless, hateful and horrible war is then do watch it and prepare to be moved, and believe me the better for it. To see the Japanese perspective is very interesting, but there is no anti-American feelings embedded beneath. It's just the story of survival seen through the eyes of Seita and his little sister Setsuko, after their mother is killed in the fire bombings and their father is away serving in the doomed Japanese Navy. A powerful film. 9.5/10
